Mallows Bay–Potomac River National Marine Sanctuary
One of our absolute favorite spots in Southern Maryland is Mallows Bay—Potomac River National Marine Sanctuary. Mallows Bay is the home of a Ghost Fleet of WWI-era wooden steamships (not pictured here). These ships emerge at low tide and provide habitat important to osprey, bald eagles, herons, and an array of fish, plants, and animals. Some of our favorite hikes in Southern Maryland have been on the trails at Mallows Bay during autumn.
